The most anticipated match of the round — Armenia versus the USA — ended in peace: 2-2. The top boards traded wins, while Caruana and Niemann drew their games. Uzbekistan meanwhile overcame China and remain the only team without dropped points — seven match wins from seven rounds.
The draw with the US team is a result to be proud of: after the German shock the Americans had gathered momentum and were among the main contenders before the round. Armenia held the top boards and kept its place in the leading group. After seven rounds Armenia have six wins and one draw — 13 match points.
Elsewhere Germany continued its run of loud results, and hosts Uzbekistan confirmed their status: seven from seven. The Armenian women played a rival from the upper half of their table and continued the fight in their group. Round eight is next — the leaders can no longer avoid each other.
